If you have a cat or dog, then you want to make sure you do everything in your power to be sure you don't have to take them into the vet for more than their regular exams and shots. The best way for you to do this is to be sure you take all the appropriate steps to keep them healthy. Here are some tips you should follow in order to help your cat and/or dog to remain as safe as possible.

Don't allow your pets to roam free

You want to make sure you don't let your pets run around the neighborhood. When they are allowed to roam free there will be an increased chance of them getting hit by a car, of them getting attacked by another animal, of them becoming a nuisance to a mean person who will harm them or of them getting injured another way or catching an illness. If you have a dog, you can put up a proper fence around the yard to keep them contained while letting them enjoy outside time. If you have a cat, you can have an outside cattery built that allows them to enjoy the outdoors while not being able to run wild. Some pets don't feel the need to be outside as often, so you may be able to get away with just taking them out daily on a leash.

Put your pets on a flea and tick preventative

You want to put your pets on a flea and tick preventative, even if you haven't been seeing fleas or ticks around your property or house. It can only take one of them to get on y our pet and cause you to end up dealing with a lot of issues. Once they have fleas or ticks on them, then they can lead to other issues, such as skin allergies, Lyme disease, worms and other problems. It's going to be much easier to prevent the issues with a preventative than to get rid of them once your pet has them on them.

Feed your pets good quality food

If you aren't feeding your pets good quality food then they can become overweight and have other issues. Some of these other issues can range from problems with their digestive systems to the development of cancer and other issues. Good foods that are grain free and low on sugar will help to keep your pets healthier for longer than subpar foods will.

Also, remember to take your pets to a veterinary clinic regularly for checkups.
